Global wind energy markets

In 2007 over 20,000 MW of wind power was installed.

The wind energy markets is booming around the world. Since the last 10 years the global installed capacity is increasing with an average of approximately 20-25% per year.

Economically the wind energy sector has now become an important player in the energy market. The total value of new installed capacity in 2007 reached 25 billion €.

Europe still remains the market leader with up to 57,136 MW installed at the end of 2007 (approximately 60% of the global), but in some few countries the market is facing a stagnant condition. Germany and Denmark are gradually becoming less reliant. This attenuation of the market in these two countries is mainly due to the size of the country (overexploitation) and to the changing of governmental policies.

The total global wind power installed capacity at the end of 2007 was 94,122 MW with an increasing of approx 27% from the end of 2006.

In the future the big countries will lead the market and soon the USA market will become the leader followed probably in couple of years by China, but Europe will still play a big role and will start to deeply exploit the offshore market.

USA had their third consecutive year of record growth with an overall installed power generating capacity grew of 45% in 2007.

The big grow of Chinese domestic market encouraged local wind turbine producers and they now have already more than 40 new companies manufacturing wind turbines.

Other big markets like Latin America (mainly Brazil and Mexico), Canada and India will also start to play a big role and in the future we will see signs of healthy growth. Some interesting growth will be also seen in the young African and Middle East Markets.
